Questions Surrounding Teams

With a season that is 162 games in length and stretches well over a period of six months, it is hard to tell right now which players will come out with strong statistics when it is all said and done. However, what can be seen up to this point is the production in Spring Training.

While these games do not count for anything, and the starters often play less than half the game, some statistics did surprise me. One team that really stood out was the New York Mets. The Mets have been quite frankly an irrelevant team for a couple of years now, but had an outstanding Spring Training record of 17-11. As a stated before, these games do not necessarily have any meaning or foreshadowing of what might come this season, but the Mets still put up a very impressive showing this spring. Along with them, the Royals, A's, Pirates, and Dodgers, all had records well above .500. While these teams have done well, injuries have plagued others. With the regular seasons starting very soon, I am excited to see what will happen in the first couple of weeks.

  1. Excellent analysis! I am not a huge follower of spring training, and therefore do not know a whole lot about how teams are doing. I'm curious, does spring training success usually translate to season success?

  2. Where's your Cardinals projection, my man? I've got mine ready to go. 95 wins, 67 losses, and a World Series title. We have a solid ace, and better than average round out to our rotation, pretty solid bullpen, and a good closer, not to mention we added Jason Heyward to give the batting order more pop.

  3. This is pretty interesting. I would be curious to know, as Maria stated, whether or not spring training success has any parallels to season success. I know in theater they say that a bad dress rehearsal means a good show, so maybe baseball is opposite like this as well?

  4. My daddy always says there's no telling what will happen until mid-season! The Cardinals have greatly surprised me quite a few times over the years with coming from behind and getting to the playoffs. But then again the Cardinals are the only time I know half diddly-squat about.
